Junior Golfer based in Florida, US
Axel Monssoh is the 2019 U.S. Kids Golf World Champion. In early 2020, Axel won the Copperhead Classic and the Desert Shootout. In 2019 at just 7 years of age, Axel competed in 28 golf tournaments — achieving 20 victories and winning a top-3 place 27 times.
Born in Miami Beach, Florida in 2012, Axel was first introduced to golf as a one-year-old when his parents bought him a plastic golf club allowing him to practice with plastic balls in the hallway of their home. At two years of age, Axel began going to the golf course and driving range with the help of his mother, competitive amateur golfer Marie Arnoux, 2009 French Ladies Mid-Amateur Champion. Axel started to play tennis around this age too, showing excellent hand-eye coordination, which has continued to serve him well in his golfing career.
Axel shows levels of maturity far above his years. His love and passion for golf along with his determination to overcome obstacles, has paid off in terms of competition wins and achievements in the sport. His ambition is to become a professional golfer, but he loves many other sports like tennis, basketball and soccer.
Axel trains hard and strives for perfection in his technique – his idea of fun is to spend a few hours out on the fairway to make sure he is in peak condition for his next game!
“Axel’s main opponent is the golf course,” explains his father Florent Monssoh. “The important thing is to keep your mind focused, pushing further each time, with the main goal: beat the golf course.”
While Axel can sometimes get frustrated when things don’t go as perfectly as he would like, he remains open to suggestions on where to make improvements.
Despite experiencing incredible success in the world of golf, Axel remains humble about his achievements and understands the need to study and work as hard academically as he does on the golf course. He has managed to stay grounded and remains sensitive.
Axel is impressive to watch on the fairway. He always gives his game 100%, hitting the ball far and making great putts. Technically he is strong and he works creatively to solve difficult situations. He continues to work on himself too, trying not to be too emotional when things don’t quite go as planned, something he hopes to master as he gets older.
At age eight he is already one of the most inspiring young athletes in the world, encouraging other young people to excel in the world of athletics and beyond.
